From Training Clients at Home to Building a Profitable Fitness Business in Less Than Two Years

Meet Brittany Fedun, Elite Fitness Alliance

Before becoming a full-time fitness business owner, Brittany Fedun had an established career in a completely different industry.

She was a Certified Public Accountant before making the decision to leave her full-time job and focus on building Elite Fitness Alliance in East Brunswick, New Jersey.

Today, the business works predominantly with women in their 40s, 50s and 60s, providing small group training, personal training and nutrition coaching.

But when Brittany first started working with FBDA, things looked very different.

She was training clients from the garage and basement of her home and admits she simply didn’t know how to grow.

“Business before FBDA was probably not a business.”

The Challenge

Leaving a secure career to build a fitness business brought plenty of uncertainty.

Brittany needed the new business to become profitable enough for her to feel financially comfortable with the decision she had made.

Initially, her goal was to make at least half of what she had earned in her previous career.

But at the beginning, even the future of the business itself felt uncertain.

“I felt like I didn't know if my business could survive. I didn't know if I could survive.”

That uncertainty was heightened by the timing.

Brittany remembers making her first call to FBDA in July 2020, right in the middle of the pandemic.

Why Brittany Chose FBDA

That first conversation gave Brittany something she was missing: confidence.

She was entering unfamiliar territory as a fitness business owner and needed guidance from someone who understood how to build the business she wanted.

Speaking with Nicky helped give her confidence that she could make it work.

From there, FBDA provided the guidance and coaching Brittany needed as she took the next steps with the business.

What Changed

One of those steps was moving beyond training clients from her home.

With enough clients to make the move profitable, Brittany opened her own space and continued building Elite Fitness Alliance.

As the business developed, so did her belief in what was possible.

The financial goal she had set after leaving accountancy was to earn at least half of what she had previously been making.

She has now surpassed that goal.

The Results

In less than two years, Brittany says she was able to get back to almost the level she had been at financially in her previous career, with the ambition to go further still.

Her progress includes:

  • Moving from training clients in her garage and basement to opening her own space.
  • Building enough of a client base to make that space profitable.
  • Surpassing her original goal of making at least half of what she had earned in her previous career.
  • Getting back to almost her previous financial position in less than two years.
  • Building greater confidence in herself and the future of the business.
  • Continuing to set bigger financial ambitions for Elite Fitness Alliance.

As Brittany explains:

“My goal was to make at least half of what I was making, and I've actually surpassed that at this point profitability-wise.”

And she isn’t looking at that achievement as the finish line.

“The goal is to make even more. I mean, I can't— I can't see stopping now.”

From Uncertainty to Confidence

The financial progress is an important part of Brittany’s story, but so is the change in how she feels about running the business.

When she first contacted FBDA, she questioned whether the business — and she herself — could survive.

Working with FBDA helped give her the confidence to take the next step, open a space and keep moving forward.

That experience is also why Brittany is so enthusiastic when speaking to other fitness business owners who might be questioning whether they need help.

“They're going to guide you, they're going to coach you, and you will be able to do unbelievable things working with them.”

What This Means for Other Fitness Business Owners

Brittany’s experience shows that her version of success wasn’t simply about growing a fitness business.

After leaving an established professional career, she wanted to build something that could also give her the level of financial comfort she had been accustomed to.

She started from her garage and basement without knowing how to grow.

Less than two years later, she had surpassed her initial profitability goal and was looking towards the next one.
