From £8K to £20K Monthly Recurring Revenue: How Dan Turned a Chaotic Studio Into a Structured Business

Meet Dan, Dan Glynn Coaching

Dan runs Dan Glynn Coaching, an integrated health and wellbeing business helping clients roughly between the ages of 35 and 60.

When Dan first started working with FBDA, he had a clear dream for what he wanted the business to become.

The problem was that he had no idea how to get there.

His studio had been open for only about two or three months. Some months the business made money; other months, Dan wasn’t even sure it did.

There was no clear structure or plan.

“I kind of had a dream and a vision of what I wanted this business to be and what I wanted to look like, but I had no idea of getting there.”

The Challenge

Like many fitness business owners starting out, Dan was doing everything himself.

He handled the accounts, delivered the training sessions and completed the client check-ins.

As he describes it:

“I was jack of all trades, master of none.”

The lack of structure created stress, and Dan wasn’t always sure whether he was heading in the right direction.

Staffing challenges made things even harder.

There were points when Dan genuinely questioned whether he wanted to continue running the business at all.

Creating Structure Behind the Vision

One of the biggest changes Dan credits to working with FBDA has been the accountability and structure it brought to the business.

Instead of everything existing in Dan’s head, he started learning how to build systems that other people could understand and follow.

The work also helped him develop his understanding of leadership, team building and creating a strong community around the business.

But one area in particular needed attention: the numbers.

Dan had always told himself that he wasn’t a “numbers guy”.

That meant questions such as how much the business was making, what it could afford to spend, whether he was earning a wage and how to forecast cash flow created significant uncertainty.

“I just lived in the moment and hoped for the best.”

Working through the numbers changed that.

Dan began to understand how to forecast and project future performance, giving him greater clarity over how Anglin Coaching could continue to grow and expand.

The Results

During one of Dan’s early sessions with Nicky, they gathered the financial data and established that monthly recurring revenue was around £8,000.

At the time of his testimonial, Dan says the business had recently achieved £20,000 in monthly recurring revenue.

He also reports that profits had more than doubled since working with FBDA.

The changes Dan describes include:

  • Growing monthly recurring revenue from around £8K to £20K.
  • More than doubling profits.
  • Growing the team to six people across training, coaching, marketing and administration.
  • Moving away from Dan having to run every area of the business himself.
  • Introducing greater structure and systems across the business.
  • Developing a better understanding of forecasting and financial planning.
  • Reducing the end-of-month anxiety around whether the business could afford its costs.
  • Becoming able to plan more confidently for future growth and expansion.
  • Personally reaching a position where he was able to get a mortgage.

The difference has given Dan something that can be difficult to put on a financial report: greater peace of mind.

“Everything works in flow, which allows me to live with more peace and ease at the same time.”

From Doing Everything Himself to Building a Team

When Dan started, the business depended heavily on him.

Today, Anglin Coaching has grown to a team of six, covering areas including training, coaching, marketing and administration.

For Dan, that has helped turn what was effectively him doing everything into a more structured business.

It has also allowed him to build a team around the same values and mission.

Rather than clients relying solely on Dan for their experience, they can now receive support from the wider Anglin Coaching team.

A Personal Milestone Dan Never Thought the Business Would Give Him

The changes haven’t only affected Anglin Coaching.

One of Dan’s biggest personal milestones since working with FBDA has been becoming able to get a mortgage.

It was something he says he never thought he would be able to achieve while running a business.

Alongside the financial progress, Dan describes moving away from the anxiety of reaching the end of the month wondering whether there would be enough money.

That greater clarity has allowed him to plan rather than simply hope for the best.

Why FBDA Was Different for Dan

Dan had worked with a number of coaches over the previous seven years, but what stood out about Nicky was his willingness to listen.

Rather than imposing somebody else’s vision of what Anglin Coaching should become, Dan felt Nicky first tried to understand what he actually wanted from his life and business.

“Nicky actually asks you, what's the life you want? What's the business you want? And he helps you create really what you want.”

For Dan, having that guidance helped him keep going through the challenges and continue building towards the vision he had from the beginning.

What This Means for Other Fitness Business Owners

Dan’s experience shows that having a big vision for a fitness business is only part of the picture.

The structure behind it matters too.

When Dan began, he had the dream but not the roadmap. He was doing everything himself, didn’t properly understand his numbers and sometimes questioned whether he wanted to continue.

Today, he describes a business with £20K monthly recurring revenue, more than double the profits, a six-person team and systems that allow him to plan for the future with greater confidence.

And perhaps most importantly, Dan is proud of what they have created.

“Every day I step into this business and into the studio now, it really allows me to be proud of what we've done, what we've created, and what we've built.”
